In Relevant History, solo podcaster Dan Toler examines the trends and ideas that shape our modern world. The first season is about the idea of nationalism, and how different societies understand their national identities. From France to Ethiopia, from the Delhi Sultanate to the Dutch Republic, we travel through time and space to explore the roots of cultures around the world, and how those national trends have shaped their history.
Here, you'll find transcripts for Relevant History podcast episodes, whether you prefer reading to listening, or whether you're hearing-impaired and still want to access the show. For now, these will be available starting with Episode 26. In the past, I didn't do this, because I was using bulleted outlines and transcription services are expensive. That said, transcription services are still expensive, and I don't always follow my scripts to the letter. There may be omissions, corrections, random tangents, changes in wording, and so on in the final episode. That said, the spirit of the text remains the same, and I always read exact quotes verbatim.
In addition, some things in these transcripts may simply be vague bullet points, or other un-helpful notes like "explain this!" This project is ongoing, and I may improve the transcripts and add more episodes later on as time or money allow.
